Greetings from the President of the SSRI

#4
The SSRI and the TSRA contracted to hold the Japan-Taiwan Strategic Dialogue (JTSD) twice a year, once in Taiwan and once in Japan, in the MOU signed and exchanged at TamKang University in May 2019. On this opportunity of the 6th JTSD, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the TSRA and SSRI for continuous efforts of holding the JTSD. However, the COVID-19 pandemic prevented of holding the 5th JTSD this year, unfortunately.

The security environment in the East Asia changes rapidly and seriously under insatiable of the PRC’s ambition which tries to get the hegemony of the world. It is estimated that the PRC will invade Taiwan and the Senkaku Islands before the year of 2027. At the Japan-US summit talk held in April this year, the leaders of Japan and the United States shared a sense of crisis about the Taiwan strait issue. In addition, and the 2021 Defense Paper of Japan clarified that the stability of the Taiwan situation is not only important matter for the security of Japan but also the stability of the international community.

If the PRC’s invasion of Taiwan and the Senkaku Islands will deterred with close security cooperation among Japan, Taiwan and the U.S., it would be the most agreeable. However, President Xi Jinping has strong will to realize the national unification dream in his own hands and proceeds wolf warrior diplomacy. So, SSRI and TSRA should tackle with various measures to deter the PRC’s ambition in the 6th JTSD. Government of Japan, Taiwan and the U.S. will highly evaluate the outcomes discussed in the 6th JTSD.
